Heeeere we go!

I had intentions of starting a blog last year when I signed up for Ironman Florida. I wanted to capture the experience as it unfolded, rather than try to dredge it up weeks later. Clearly, that didn't happen. I'll go into the details of the drama that interrupted my training at another time. Suffice it to day, it's been a less than stellar season so far - but I'm trudging forward in the hopes that I'll continue to get stronger, leaner, and mentally tougher as my training progresses and Nov 1st approaches!

A bit of context:  I'm turning 57 this year and this will be my first ironman.  I started triathlons the year I turned 50 and was instantly hooked. I train with Tri Zones Training, an AMAZING training group in Austin, Texas.  Here I am at Danskin 2007, my first triathlon:

aaaaaand here I am at last years Couple's Tri:

I've come a long way in the past 7 years.

I'm up about 15lbs from that weight this season and working on getting leaner.  This is where I'd like to be by the time IMFL comes around - it sure is easier on my knees and I'm noticeably faster carrying less weight.

Training has been a roller coaster ride so far - but I'm on an upswing this week after a solid 4.5 hour ride with transition run and a good 10 miles out my 14 mile run the following day.  Last 4 miles were crap due to the heat and a nutrition failure on my part.  That's something I can fix for this weekend - just get up earlier to start my run and up my calorie intake a bit.
